The Woodbury Heights Improvement, Protective & Fire Association was incorporated in the State of New Jersey on March 25, 1911. The Association operates the fire suppression services and the EMS squad, known as the Woodbury Heights Fire Dept/EMS. Service is provided to the community by an all-volunteer force of 36 men and women on a 24/7 basis. Since 1911 twenty men have served as chief.

There are plenty of opportunities to serve your community through the volunteer fire and EMS services, and much of it has nothing to do with fire fighting. Maintaining the company, its equipment and building, fundraising and member activities requires effort from volunteers. Every Tuesday night we have our weekly drill nights, which are from 7:30 – 9:30 PM. Stop by the firehouse any Tuesday evening or contact a member in the department if you are interested in joining.

The Woodbury Heights Police Department was founded in 1961. Prior to that date police protection was provided by the New Jersey State Police. Town Marshalls and volunteers from the local Fire Department provided police services also. In 1929 the first school safety patrol was established at the Woodbury Heights Elementary School. In 1966 the first police chief was Tuck McCabe. Since then there have been four police chiefs. The Police Department became a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation in 1984. A D.A.R.E. unit was established in 1992 by Sgt. James Golding.
